Zcash4win BETA is out!

The data directories are not changed at all by the “Add/Remove Programs” control panel. You simply stop it, remote the old version, and double click the new releases msi file to install it. Your copy of the blockchain, your wallet.dat file and its keys, etc are not changed at all.

I hadn’t tweeted or otherwise posted about the new release yet, because I am still adding a small feature or two before I do a big push for people to upgrade, but yes a new release is there (I just soft-launched it to make it available right now with zcash v1.0.11 embedded in it. Its not an urgent security fix release or anything, so no huge rush to update).

Alright, thank you, David. I see that the wallet works perfectly so no need to update right now, once you do the final push, I’ll install it as well.

Thanks, again

probably a dumb question but, does the block data just keep increasing indefinitely? like how big of storage is/will be needed for all the dat files?

yes it does…bitcoin is pretty big now, but it has been growing for years longer than zcash…how big it gets depends on how big all the blocks are!

Pardon for the newbie question. I installed Zcash4win and all indicators are normal with ZcashD status"running" and 10 network connections and the blockchain synchronized 100%. It is a 6 Nividia 1070/1080 mining rig also mining ETH.
The Zcash4win has been running for 36 hours, with the main screen at 0.00 ZEC. I just want to make sure I do not have to run any other programs and it is a matter of time that some ZEC’s will show up in the wallet.
Thanks

zcash4win is a wallet. You need to run a miner to mine Zcash. For nVidia EWBF garners the highest Sol/s. It looks like you might want to do a bit more research into how this all works before getting started so you don’t waste your electricity or lose ZEC.

Thank you for the tip and I will do more research.

see the #mining topic here in the forums and the #mining channel on the zcash rocket chat, both have decent traffic!

I don’t have administrator on this windows machine. Can you please allow the install to proceed without administrator access?

Thank you!

oh I wish that that were easy to do, which it isn’t when building a Microsoft Installer (msi) file.
you CAN run my command line zcash port to windows (which zcash4win uses internally), and manually download the Swing Wallet by @vaklinov on its own separately, assuming the systems administrator has installed a recent version of Java.

Can you check if that’s the case?

another noob question; why would i transfer from my t address to z address? cant i just leave everything in my t address?

you certainly can leave everything in a taddr, then it has the exact same security properties as bitcoin.

ah i see, thank you.

I think i have a big problem here. when i loaded my wallet got to the wallet page but windows crash on me. now everytime i restart my zcash4win it get stuck to verifing proving key. ive try the wallet in 3 differents computer and did a fresh install on 1 of them and it never want to work. the debug file show this.

can somebody help me :frowning:

i really hope that you have a backup of the wallet.dat file or the keys in it, or that you didn’t have much ZEC in your wallet, as the 2-3 times I have seen this since last oct the wallet was not recoverable :frowning:

I’m having the same exact problem. I was running 1.0.10, uninstalled that one and installed 1.0.11 but getting the same issue. Hope some one can help us out. I had over 5 zec in that wallet.

oy vey, did you back up the wallet.dat or dump the private keys???

I was previously mining Zcash using Zcash4Win and ended up transferring all of the wallet contents into my exchange account (Bittrex). Long story short, I ended up reformatting the rig and did not save the wallet because there was nothing left in the wallet anyway.
I reloaded the system and Zcash4Win and began mining again.
Turns out though, when I configured the EWBF batch file, I never changed the T-address and I’ve been mining to the old Zcash T-address. I can see all the progress on Nanopool and I have some coins now on that pool. But, the Zcash4Win client doesn’t show any coins (because its new T-address is not the same as the old).
Since I no longer have the wallet.dat file for that old t-address, how can I get the coins that are on Nanopool (using the old t-address) into the Zcash4Win application? Can you import the address without a wallet.dat file?
If there is a way to circumvent all of this, the end goal is to get all of my Zcash over to Bittrex.

I am sorry to say that you CAN’T, unless you backed up that wallet.dat file or exported those keys via the various options in the Wallet menu, they are gone. Forever. No way to get them back except brute forcing the private key for the address, and if you are have enough CPU to think about that (hint: all the supercomputers in the world are not enough) then just crack Satoshi’s supposedly lost private keys.

I’m really sorry that that’s the answer, but that is the case for all blockchain based currencies. Control over the private keys IS having the money. That’s it, there is no other mechanism for spending them, no way to recover without the privkey.
